Massage Ethics

My name is Catherine Roe and massage ethics is important to me. I am a qualified ITEC Holistic Massage and Reflexology Therapist, and also a professional qualified IFPA Aromatherapist - My home based health practice is located in Walkinstown, Dublin 12 - I am a member of the Complementary Therapists Association, National Register of Reflexologists (Ireland) and International Federation of Professional Aromatherapist. I adhere to the following code of conduct.

Massage Ethics and code of conduct

I saw the value of non-conventional modes of communication using complementary therapies when my grandmother developed Alzheimer, when she was in the final stages of her Alzheimer's disease, I would gently work on her hands. It was the easiest and the most efficient method of massage that I could use at that stage.

And, she loved it. I would make sure she knew I was there and that she was safe, she would lean her head towards one of my hands and say "that feels so good". I could feel the tension melt from her body.

You can't imagine the joy it gave me to "communicate" with her. Even though we could no longer converse for more than a few seconds via speech, we'd have the most wonderful times connecting through hand massage. Catherine Roe

Touch is the first sense to become functional and the last sense to leave in old age but it is often neglected. It is so vital, in fact, that human beings need four hugs a day for survival, eight hugs a day for maintenance and 12 hugs a day for growth, so it is believed...

In 2005, I volunteered in offering a healing massage therapy service in different day care centres across Dublin and also worked in a holistic centre before starting my own practice.

In many regards, I am an idealist convinced that a holistic approach to life is the way forward. I care deeply about finding a way to contribute to the good of my patients in a concrete, observable manner. I am a genuine and empathetic individual, with a hunger for deep and meaningful relationships with my clients as I like to discover the truth about your stress, pain and malfunction to facilitate the healing process.

My Vision

My vision is for everyone to receive a massage at least once a month because every body deserves one.

My intention is to facilitate healing for my clients on a physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level and to contribute to their well-being.

A developed intuition helps me to define the most appropriate treatment according to client needs and individual special circumstances

I would like to make a difference in this world by promoting relaxation making it a place where we can live in peace and harmony with our inner self and environment

My Training

Although specialised in Hot Stone therapy and stress relief, I have extensive training in Reflexology and Aromatherapy treating all types of conditions like, back pain, joints pain, headache, insomnia, digestive problems, etc...

My Massage ethics values

1 - Authenticity - Treat each individual as unique.

2 - Integrity - Respect the Body, Mind and Spirit connection of each person.

3 - Tolerance - Accept individual with their ailment and malfunction.

4 - Patience - Understand that healing can take time.

5 - Healing - Develop the body self-healing abilities.

6 - Wellness - Promote wellbeing, not just the absence of desease but a general sense of wellbeing.

I have developed my own Amatouch Massage Technique. Amatouch stands for a nurturing touch, it comes from the Basque language meaning Mother touch. I believe, as growing adults, we can continue to nurture ourselves by taking care of our body and wellbeing. There is nothing better than massage to feel relaxed, centred and positive.
